I used to define myself as a veteran student! After a very short detour in International and Diplomatic Studies at the Università di Bologna, I switched to Economics at the Università di Cagliari where I earned a bachelor in European Economics and Policy and a masters in Economic Sciences. At the University of Cagliari I also enrolled in graduate school and earned a Ph.D. in Economic Sciences. In 2009, I moved to the United States to continue improving my graduate education. Since then, I received a masters in Economics from the Department of Economics at the Pennsylvania State University and, still at Penn State, I earned my second Ph.D. in Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Economics. I spent one year as a post-doctoral research associate and adjunct lecturer in the Food and Resource Economics Department at the University of Florida gaining some more teaching experience and working on expanding my research. In the Fall of 2017, I moved further south to Mexico City and joined the research department of the Banco de México as an economist. I became senior economist in the Summer of 2020.
I was born and raised in Sardinia, a big island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Probably because of the isolation that living on an island entails and the gift of a quite good memory, I have been always very curious and passionate about languages. My mom was an Italian and Latin teacher, so Italian and a bit of Latin were a given in my life. I studied French, English and German in school and I learned Sardo -the traditional language spoken in Sardinia- listening to my grandma. Recently, I've been dealing with adding Spanish to my foreign (languages) portfolio. I would say that, subjunctivo aside, this latest learning adventure has been quite successful. When I do not work, I enjoy devoting time, effort and creativity to cooking&baking, one of my biggest passions, an effective anti-stress therapy, and the best weigh-control strategy I know! Another great passion of mine is traveling, but I don't get to do it nearly as often as I would like since I got a real job. I move a lot but do not travel for fun enough!
